Free1 radon measurement in private households
The Federal Ministry for Climate Protection, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation and Technology (BMK) enables a free1 radon measurement with two radon detectors in your private household as part of its activities for radon protection. For these measurements, the BMK provides a contingent of radon detectors twice a year (CW 28 and CW 48). The measurement basically lasts six months, starting either at the beginning of December or in July. You can order two radon detectors for the determination of the radon concentration in the air in your private household free1 of charge at the following link:
The free1 order of a measurement package (two detectors) is possible in the period CW 28 (08.07 to 14.07) or until the quota is used up.
After ordering, you will receive the radon detectors together with installation instructions and access data for the online measurement protocol by mail. Keep this information safe, as it will be needed to complete the measurement.
As soon as you receive the detectors, place them in the two most used living rooms, e.g. living room, bedroom. At the end of the measurement period (6 months), please return the detectors to AGES Linz (Wieningerstraße 8, 4020 Linz) for evaluation. Please note that the return has to be done as soon as possible after the end of the measurement. At the latest at the time of return, you must also record the data of your measurement in the online measurement protocol. Without this recording, an evaluation is not possible.
After the evaluation of the detectors you will receive the result as a test report. It will be sent by e-mail to the e-mail address registered in the online measurement report.
If you have any questions or uncertainties about the measurement, please contact the Austrian Radon Center at the email address radonfachstelle@ages.at or general FAQs about the measurement are available. A measurement time calculator to calculate the exact end of the measurement can be accessed here.
The aim of the measurements is not only to increase the awareness of radon but also to improve the knowledge about radon in Austria and to collect further data without personal reference for the radon map. The consent to data processing of personal data given by the order can be revoked informally at any time at datenschutz@ages.at.
Attention: The free1 order is only valid for one package (contains two detectors)!
1 The shipping costs of the return shipment are to be paid by the household!
